The Seal People
Selkies belong to the maritime folklore of the North Atlantic and are particularly associated with Scottish and island traditions.
They are supernatural beings said to live as seals in the sea but to shed their skins and take human form on land.
Many Selkie stories concern a human who hides or steals a Selkie's sealskin, preventing the supernatural visitor from returning to the sea until the skin is eventually recovered.
