The Hound of Ulster
Cú Chulainn is the great warrior hero of the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology. Raised into the warrior world of Emain Macha, he became renowned for extraordinary strength, skill and ferocity in battle.
His greatest legend is the Táin Bó Cúailnge — the Cattle Raid of Cooley — in which he stands almost alone against the invading armies of Connacht, defending Ulster through a succession of single combats.
The tales portray a hero capable of astonishing feats but also consumed by the terrifying battle-frenzy known as the ríastrad. His short, violent life made Cú Chulainn one of the most enduring figures in Irish heroic tradition.
